We found this spider in our greenhouse in the center of some of the plants beds. We found the cockroach in the arms of the spider dying. In the spiders web we found a cockroach skin. The spider must have been waiting for the cockroach to shed its skin so it’d be softer to sink it’s teeth in to. If the spider hadn’t of killed the cockroach, the cockroach could have infested our plants beds and ruined all of our crops.
Spiders eat many insects including aphids, caterpillars, cucumber beetles, flies, grasshoppers, leaf hoppers, plant bugs, and thrips. There are over 3,800 species of spiders in America, that is a lot of helping fangs. Spiders prevent insects from becoming overly dominant and destructive. Spiders are naturally attracted to the good hunting available.
